My Review Policy as an Author

(Ed. note: Authorial Mom Blog has essentially gone dark. It's too hard to write as many books as I do and attempt to maintain the blog. But I'm leaving this post up as the first post because my review policy hasn't changed. If you're looking for more current information about me and my books, please sign up for my newsletter or visit my website. Thanks for reading!)

Alternatively titled, Review My Books--Please!

Order: Amazon | Samhain All Romance | B&N

So, you'd like to review my books, huh?

That's great! I love reviewers! I send them review copies and sometimes fun swag things all the time. I link back to reviews on my website, my Facebook page, and my Twitter handle (@SarahMAnderson1). I also send reviews to my agent and editor, who sometimes also repost them.

So, how do you sign up for this? Well, I have two main requirements to decide who gets a review copy of one of my books.

1. Are you an established reviewer? Do you post your reviews on your own blog or on another established blog, such as Harlequin Junkie, Night Owl Reviews or even a smaller blog, such as Ramblings from a Chaotic Mind?

And

2. Have you been consistent about posting your reviews? If you have a site, do you post regularly? That could be once a week, once a day, or even once a month. Has the site been maintained or is the last post dated last March?

That's it. That's all I require from reviewers and bloggers who'd like a review copy of my book. I do NOT require positive reviews, I do NOT require that you post your reviews on a specific day and I do NOT require cross-posts to Goodreads or Amazon (although such things are lovely.) I don't even require you tweet about them (I usually find out about them anyway.)

I like to see a review policy on your blog or website that states what you will or will not review because that tells me you're professional about this but again, that's not required.

But please note--I do require you post your reviews on an independent site. I do not send review copies to people who only review on Goodreads or Amazon.

Why?

Amazon | Powell’s | Indiebound B &N | other retailers

Because those reviews simply do not lead to web hits. If you have a blog and you post a review of my books--which usually includes the title and my name--your review will come in a search on my name and title. More hits means higher web rankings for me. Goodreads and Amazon reviews do not bring up a separate hit. My agent will not link back to Goodreads, but she will link back to a review site.

If you're a reader who just wants a free book, I give away a lot of books to people who comment on a guest blog I wrote. I also sometimes get in a mood and give away books on Twitter just because I can. I give away books on a Goodreads giveaway as well (like this one).

Otherwise, buy a book. Support your friendly local author. Or go to your friendly local library and check a book out. Then you're supporting both the author AND the library and everyone wins.

This is my review policy.
